Seeking a Great Vacation? Try a Canary Islands Cruise!

Travel and leisure is a sure thing for my family and me. I like a holiday cruise during the year. Great beaches, blue skies and nice people really give me the charge up I need when I get back to work.

When I think about having a vacation, the Canary Islands off Spain will come to my mind. You can get there by cruise. If this is your choice, it makes good sense to get the help of a cruise-only travel agent or an online agency that specializes in cruise vacations. They probably can give you better cruise holiday deals.

-- Cruise Tip -- I'm not one for last minute travel although I suppose I could be if my schedule was more flexible but my job requires me to ask for vacation months in advance. I don't doubt for one minute that by using a travel site can be less expensive as you can also get discounts on tours and car hire by booking this way. Knowing a little about what you want and information about the location you want to travel too can be useful so I still research as much of this as I can online before I pay my travel agent a visit. Perhaps it isn't fair because I know that it will be my travel agent that will hear my complaints if my vacation doesn't go according to plan.

You can also get there by air. All the islands have airports. Most international flights and those from mainland Spain goes to Tenerife, Gran Canaria, and Lanzarote. You can also fly to the Canaries from most European cities. If you are flying from North America, flights usually go to Madrid, where you can get a connecting flight.

The Canary Islands were discovered by a Frenchman Bethencourt in the 15th century. Before that..

it was inhabited by an unknown North African aboriginal group. A few places of interest you should visit are: Fuerteventura, Gomera, Grand Canary, Lanzarote and Tenerife.

In my opinion, this place is one of the best holiday resort to get away from the winter. And, there are many activities to keep you and your loved ones busy! If you like golf, you can try the mini golf course. If biking or hiking is your thing, there are many tracks to wonder around.

The Teide National Park is a fantastic place for you, especially if you like hiking and biking. It is home to Spain's highest mountain, the dormant volcano Teide. Its volcanic landscape is a sight to behold. There are also many walking trails and a cable car to the top of the volcano. Your experience will be mind-blowing!

If you are into sea-sports, the Bahía de Pozo Izquierdo is the best beach on Gran Canaria for windsurfing. If snorkelling or scuba diving is your thing - you will be delighted to see grouper, barracuda, turtles, rays, tropical fishes and the occasional shark. Needless to say, deep sea fishing and sailing is also fantastic!

-- Cruise Tip -- Don't worry if you are uncertain about taking your children along on a cruise vacations because there will be plenty for them to do without you needing to be close at hand, watching over them. There will be probably more for your children to do than at a standard resort, in fact you probably won't see them much during the day.

If you are at Gran Canaria, a hotel to stay is "ClubHotel Riu Vistamar". It is well maintained, and the service is good. Although the pool area can be crowded, the food more than makes up for it. You get pancakes, cereals, toast and even champagne for breakfast! On certain days, you'll even get smoked salmon. Quite frankly, I don't mind having it everyday! Remember to attend the 6:30pm dinner to enjoy the night entertainment too.

The Canary Islands has a population of 1.84m people, most of whom are Roman catholic. The weather is generally warm and sunny all year round. If you hate winter, this is the best place to be a lazy beach bum, and have nice and friendly people around you!
